ARE WE MEASURING THE FACTORS THAT TRULY DRIVE GOVERNANCE?
Governance is a fundamental part of achieving high-performing institutions, yet the systems we have created have reduced it to mere compliance.
We have been rethinking what contribution should be made towards improving how we measure governance moving beyond compliance to understanding what truly drives performance and accountability.
The persistent gap in how we assess organisational performance, particularly within the public sector, is one of the root causes of poor performance despite “clean audit” labels.
We continue to celebrate compliance particularly financial compliance as a sign of success.
But important questions remain:
- Are organisations truly delivering on their mandate?
- Are we measuring the right factors that influence organisational performance?
- Can institutions sustain performance over time?
- What should the consequences be when organisations consistently fail to implement their mandate?
Compliance outcomes do not always reflect the full reality of organisational performance. What we measure shapes what we manage and what we ignore becomes risk.
My recent journey into studying data science has opened my eyes to a world I had not fully appreciated before, one with deep, clear oceans of insight to explore. It has challenged how I think about evidence, patterns, and what truly drives outcomes.
We are currently in the process of formally registering the developed framework(trademark and have commenced engagements with relevant stakeholders to explore alignment, application, and collaboration.
Be on the lookout this work is intended to have relevance across both the public and private sectors.
Exciting times ahead.?
